American Immigration
To Understand American history is to understand American Immigration. People have been coming to America for various reasons ever since this land was discovered. Some of the reasons consist of religious freedom, opportunity, survival, and political freedom. There is a sort of "push-pull" factor that has really been the cause of a lot of the immigration to America. The Fourteenth Amendment was put in place to declare who was to become a citizen. After the Civil War there was the issue of the freed slaves, the Naturalization Act of 1870 was finally passed to cover the issue of the freed slaves. For years after that America had then placed a quota on the amount of different immigrants that were aloud to pass into the United States. The one thing that it didn't take into consideration was the amount of refugees that would flow toward America during war times. the Immigration Act of 1965 finally covered those exact issues.
